Mayoral candidate plans meetings to hear about needs of the community

NOVEMBER 15, 2024

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - One of the candidates for La Crosse Mayor provides details on the first of what he calls Community Action Roundtables on Wednesday, November 20.

Shaundel Washington-Spivey set the roundtable discussion at the South Side Neighborhood Center at 6 p.m.

He has six roundtables planned.

In a release, he said he is spending this month and next meeting and listening with community members and what they see as the important needs for La Crosse.

"Care, action, and community are more than just words,” he said. “Through the creation of Community Action Roundtables, my campaign team and I can engage directly with the community, centering their needs and aspirations at the heart of our campaign. This approach ensures that every step we take reflects what truly matters to the people we are working to represent. I hope to see a diverse group of people show up for these roundtables so that we can collectively work to develop a brighter vision for our La Crosse.”

He said his campaign is focusing on three areas where he's looking for input: housing, youth and families, and the local economy.

Those attending can also discuss the role of the mayor in La Crosse.

Dates, times, and locations of the remaining five roundtables, some of which are virtual, are pending.

Washington-Spivey is one of two candidates who have said they're running for mayor.

Ellie McLoone officially begins her campaign on Monday.

Incumbent Mayor Mitch Reynolds has not announced whether he'll run for another term.
